LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A lot of people think the holidays, especially Christmas, are all about the kids.

But many families have grandparents, or even great grandparents, to consider.

How to make the holiday fun for all? Dr. Marion Somers, a senior care expert, was an in-studio guest on the KCAL 9 News at Noon Tuesday.

She explained how to enjoy time with family, especially the elders, and several tips on how to make the holidays less stressful.

For one thing, Dr. Somers suggests including grandpa or grandma in the planning and preparation of family meals, for example. Whatever it is, she says “give them an active role.”

She also suggests helping put albums together, singing holidays songs and giving elderly family members special and meaningful tasks like lighting the candle or reading a special story.
